Afton Brazzoni is a Canadian artist based in southern Alberta. Originally from Nova Scotia, she has a deep connection to water and rugged landscapes.
Many of Afton’s oil paintings are inspired by time spent hiking in the Canadian Rockies where she lived for nearly 10 years with her husband, two dogs and two cats. Others are inspired by seaside hikes in Nova Scotia, as well as travels to South America, Europe and Asia. As of March 2024, Afton is newly represented by Canadian art gallery Artterra.
“I have always been drawn to nature — its majesty and magic, its silence and stillness. Days spent exploring the beaches and forests of Nova Scotia as a child turned into a decade of discovering the trails of the Canadian Rockies in my 20s. I first captured these beloved landscapes through the medium of photography. Now, I translate my images into paintings.
Working with oil on canvas, I aim to convey both the grandeur and detail of nature in my art. My style is largely realistic, and similar in both colour and composition to my reference photos.
The process of revisiting my most cherished moments in nature through painting brings me joy. I hope to convey a sense of peace and awe in my work.”
