All of the CMS ensembles are excitedly preparing for the upcoming Spring Showcase Concert, Saturday, May 10 at 7pm at the Cochrane Alliance Church.
Choral Waves’ repertoire centres on the theme that we are all in this complicated, yet wonderful life together. Ranging from classical to Gordon Lightfoot and Harry Belafonte tunes, it is about how together, we can Turn The World Around.
This year, Cochrane Music Society commissioned Calgary composer, Oliver Munar, to compose a piece for Choral Waves and they will premiere his piece Together with lyrics by Ruth Ullyatt, one of our very own soprano singers.
The theme of both the concert and jazz bands is the stories we tell and who we really are behind those stories. Riverside Jazz has a lineup of iconic charts from Chick Corea’s jazz fusion standard Spain to Antonio Carlos Jobim’s bossa nova The Girl from Ipanema to Elton John’s pop rock I’m Still Standing.
Band on the Bow stories include love, with repertoire that spans almost 100 years from the 1876 Czech opera Hubička (The Kiss) to the Beatles; gratitude expressed by the Japanese Variations on Plum Blossom Theme and Grace Before Sleep by American composer Susan LaBarr; and appreciation of the grandeur of our own Pacific coast in the Cascadia Suite by Robert Buckley.
We love to perform for our enthusiastic Cochrane audience! Come and enjoy this amazing array of fantastic music! Tickets are available at the door and online at www.cochranemusic.ca
Remember to bring a donation for the Cochrane Food Bank.
